Earlier this month, a BlueSky account claiming to be horror filmmaker and machinima artist Alvin Soprano gained over 3,000 followers in less than a week.
The handle — @alvinsoprano — appeared legitimate to many, especially since it matched the now-deleted username once linked from Alvin’s official website and YouTube channel.
But things weren’t what they seemed.
A Fan Account Raises the Alarm
It wasn’t long before longtime fan account @alvinsopranoworld flagged inconsistencies. The tone of the posts felt off — from grammar and emoji use to the general voice of the account. Something didn’t align with Alvin’s known online presence.
After privately reaching out to Helen Gaard, Alvin’s agent, @alvinsopranoworld publicly posted:
“Just so everybody knows, Alvin’s agent Helen Gaard confirmed that Alvin doesn’t have a BlueSky account.”
By the time that post was live, the fake account had already received an impersonation warning badge and was promptly removed from the platform.
Misused Links and Suspicious Timing
The impersonator had likely capitalized on a confusing digital trail: Alvin Soprano deleted her BlueSky account back in April, but the link was still listed on her official channels. That outdated information created an opening — the username was available, and someone claimed it to pose as her.
This added to the credibility of the fake account in the eyes of many fans who weren’t aware the original had been removed.
Instagram Also Compromised
Things escalated further when @alvinsopranoworld revealed that Alvin’s Instagram account had been hacked on the same day the fake BlueSky page was reported. The hacker reportedly changed the associated email and password, locking Alvin out of her only active social media account.
In a direct message exchange, Helen Gaard confirmed the situation and added that this was the third impersonation incident since late 2024.
“Alvin is not on BlueSky. Her only social media is Instagram,” she wrote. “We had two other fake accounts deleted since November 2024. I have reported the [BlueSky] account. Please do the same.”
Another BlueSky user, @smedish, shared that they had also contacted Alvin via Discord to clarify — she confirmed the BlueSky page was fake, and that she’s currently waiting on Instagram to verify her identity and restore access to her account.
What’s Verified, What’s Not
As of now, Alvin Soprano is not on BlueSky, and her verified Instagram presence is temporarily inaccessible. Fans are advised to treat any newly created social media accounts with skepticism unless officially announced.
In the meantime, reliable updates appear to be coming through @alvinsopranoworld, who helped uncover the impersonation and continues to provide status updates while Alvin’s team works to regain access.
