Pianist and composer Lisa Swerdlow has released her latest EP, Dancing Between Worlds, marking her first major project since the loss of her wife to a rare cancer.
The project reflects Swerdlow’s personal navigation of grief and the process of redefining life after the passing of a long-time partner.
The six-track EP features a combination of solo piano pieces and works arranged with orchestration. Three tracks were orchestrated by Doug Hammer, a noted figure in the New Age and contemporary instrumental community. One piece includes Swerdlow’s own orchestration work.
Swerdlow, who has long been recognized in the New Age music genre, describes the EP as a reflection of the in-between space that follows significant loss — an emotional territory she refers to as “dancing between worlds.” The compositions are intended to convey the experience of grief, the search for stability, and the eventual acceptance of what lies ahead.
While the solo piano tracks focus on minimalistic and contemplative themes, the orchestrated pieces add layers of instrumental textures, expanding the emotional narrative of the record.
The release comes at a time when Swerdlow’s audience has followed her deeply personal musical journey. Dancing Between Worlds is available on major streaming platforms and through select online music retailers.
