Sirius XM has announced multiple airings of a special guest DJ session hosted by legendary singer-songwriter Jackie DeShannon, honoring pioneering female artists of the 1960s in celebration of Women’s History Month.
DeShannon, recognized as one of the first female singer-songwriters of the rock era, will take over the Golden Channel 73 to spin handpicked tracks spotlighting both U.S. and British women whose contributions helped shape modern rock and pop music. The show will premiere Monday, March 10 at 7:00 PM EST, with additional broadcasts scheduled for March 13, 15, 24, 27, and 29.
The trailblazing artist has curated a setlist that blends household names and hidden gems alike, drawing attention to remarkable women who often did not receive the same recognition as their male peers but whose impact on music history is undeniable.
Among the celebrated American vocalists are The Ronettes (“Be My Baby”)—the only female group to tour with The Beatles—alongside Aretha Franklin, Skeeter Davis, Barbara Lewis, Carla Thomas, Irma Thomas, The Honeys, Etta James, and The Supremes.
DeShannon also salutes the powerhouse British voices who made waves internationally, including Dusty Springfield (“Son of a Preacher Man”), Petula Clark, Olivia Newton-John, Shirley Bassey, Cilla Black, Helen Shapiro, Sandie Shaw, Marianne Faithful, Jackie Trent, Samantha Jones, and Mary Hopkin.
In addition to spinning timeless classics, DeShannon narrates brief histories and personal insights about these artists, creating an intimate journey through the golden age of female rock and pop.
Jackie DeShannon’s own career mirrors the groundbreaking paths forged by many of the artists featured in the broadcast. An inductee of the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and the Library of Congress for “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” DeShannon is a Grammy Award winner (“Bette Davis Eyes”) and famously toured with The Beatles on their first U.S. visit. She remains active as a Sirius XM correspondent, delivering Beatle news on “Breakfast With the Beatles” every weekend, and is beloved for co-writing the enduring anthem “Put A Little Love in Your Heart” with her brother Randy Myers and Jimmy Holiday.
“I’m thrilled to celebrate these extraordinary women who shaped the soundtrack of a generation,” said DeShannon. “Their voices, their songwriting, and their spirit paved the way for so many artists who came after.”
