Aubrey Plaza made a heartfelt return to the public eye during the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special, marking her first appearance since the tragic passing of her husband, Jeff Baena. On February 16, 2025, Plaza introduced a musical performance by Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard, offering a poignant tribute to Baena.
Dressed in a black blazer and pants, Plaza subtly honored her late husband by wearing a tie-dye shirt underneath—a nod to their unconventional wedding attire.
In December 2021, she shared on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that during their impromptu 2021 wedding, both wore tie-dye pajamas Baena had created during the quarantine.
Baena, a respected writer and director known for films like “Life After Beth,” passed away by suicide on January 3 at the age of 47. Plaza and Baena’s family released a statement expressing their deep gratitude for the support received and requested privacy during this difficult time.

Following his death, Plaza deactivated her Instagram account and withdrew from scheduled public appearances, including presenting at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.
The “SNL” 50th anniversary special was a star-studded event, featuring appearances by numerous celebrities. Plaza’s participation, especially her tribute to Baena, added a deeply personal and emotional layer to the evening.
